Wax melts guide

By the StageLook team · Updated · 1 min read

Wax melts are scented wax without a wick. Instead of burning them, you warm them in a dish on a wax warmer, and the heat releases the fragrance. They are the easiest way to change scents often and to use a maker’s candle scents without a flame.

What you need

A wax warmer made for melts: an electric warmer with a heated dish, or a tea-light warmer with a dish above the flame. Antique Candle Co. advises against using a crockpot, coffee warmer, stove top or anything not specifically made for wax melts.

How to use them

  1. Break off one or two cubes, or a piece of a bar, and place them in the dish.
  2. Turn on the warmer, or light the tea light, and let the wax melt. The scent builds as the wax turns liquid.
  3. Turn it off when you leave the room or when you have enough scent.

Antique Candle Co. says six to ten mini cubes of its soy melts can give up to about 13 hours of scent, and warns not to touch the hot melted wax.

Changing scents

When the fragrance has faded, let the wax cool and harden, then pop it out of the dish, or gently warm the dish for a minute so the disc slides out. Wipe the dish and add a new melt.

Safety

  • Keep the warmer on a flat, heat-resistant surface and away from children and pets.
  • Do not add water or oil to the dish.
  • Do not leave a tea-light warmer unattended; the same candle rules apply.

Choosing from our range

The wax melts collection includes soy melts from Ghost Poppy and Slow North, often in the same scents as their candles and room sprays.
